Madison’s girls golf team will compete at the Division 4 state golf tournament this weekend at Grand Valley State University’s Meadows Course.
The Trojans captured the Independent Golf League championships and finished third in the Regional under coach Erik Thompson. It’s the second year for the program.
“I am very proud of these girls and the hard work that they put in,” Thompsons aid. “Many are either first- or second-year golfers who are multisport athletes and attended our volunteer workouts all summer long.”
Sophomore Nicole Olden had the lowest score on the team at the Regional, shooting a 96.
Katelyn Payne, Kayla Bozyk, Ashley Morris and Kendall Hudson also teed it up for Madison in the Regional last week.
The state finals are Friday and Saturday.
“For the state meet, we are seeded 13 out of 15 teams because we played poorly at regionals and took third on a poor weather day,” Thompson said. “I am looking for the girls to first and foremost enjoy this weekend and hopefully play well and finish in the top 10.”
