What: Division 8, Region 4, District 2 championship

When: 7 p.m. Friday

First meeting: Morenci 49, Whiteford 0 in Week 7

All-time: Morenci leads series, 21-16.

Playoff meetings: Morenci beat Whiteford 18-14 in its only playoff meeting, back in 2001.

How they match up: Both have high-powered running attacks with multiple backfield threats. Morenci averages 313.0 rushing yards and 46.7 points per game. Whiteford’s rushing game averages 303.6 yards per game while the team scores 33.6 points a game.

Defense: Shawn Feltz and Nick Stutzman are the leaders of Morenci’s defense which has six shutouts in 10 games and is giving up 5.6 points a game.

Individuals: Austin Sandusky leads Morenci with 1,488 yards rushing while Jesse Kiefer’s 1,025 yards leads the parade of Whiteford backs.

Whiteford coach Jason Mensing: “We are very excited to be able to play a team as good as Morenci and have another shot at them.”

Morenci coach Mike McDowell: “We have basically everybody back from a team that gave up a lot of points. They have grown up and have a lot more experience this year. These kids have made themselves better football players, stronger football players. That’s a credit to themselves and coaches Jacob Bovee and Dan Hoffman, who led the kids in the weight room. They’ve improved so much since last year.”
