The 2014-15 girls basketball season kicks off Tuesday with seven games.

Here are some quick things you need to know about the upcoming season:

There are three new coaches in the TCC, but they are hardly new. Larry Bruce takes over for Tim Yatzek at Morenci. Bruce had a couple of stints as Morenci’s boys head coach and accumulated several league championships. Whiteford athletic director Nate Gust, a former TCC boys scoring champion, takes over as the Bobcat head coach. And, Matt Benge is returning to the sidelines after a couple of seasons away. Benge had a record of 73-19 in five seasons coaching the Aggies.

Madison is the defending league champion, going 14-0 and 20-2 overall in 2013-14. The Trojans have gone 41-1 in the last three years in the TCC and 62-7 overall during that stretch.

Two TCC players enter the 2014-15 season within striking distance of 1,000 career points. Britton-Deerfield’s Morgan Tanis has 654 career points entering the season and Janie Bunge of Whiteford has 650. Bunge led the TCC in scoring last season, averaging 18 points a game in league play and scoring 341 points overall. Both were first team All-TCC choices last year.

The most common non-conference opponent this season for the TCC is Lenawee Christian, which appears as a non-league game seven times on TCC schedules this year.

Other non-conference opponents and the number of games vs. TCC foes: Addison (3), Ann Arbor Greenhills (2), Ann Arbor Prep (1), Ann Arbor Rudolf Steiner (2), Ann Arbor Skyline (1), Blissfield (3), Dundee (2), Emmanuel Christian (1), Erie Mason (3), Grass Lake (1), Hudson (3), Ida (1), Jackson Christian (1), Jonesville (1), Manchester (3), Milan (2), Moncolva Christian Academy (1), Onsted (2), Pittsford (2), Stockbridge (1), Tecumseh (1) and Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes (1).

Britton-Deerfield will once again participate in the Siena Heights Tournament. The games will be Monday and Tuesday Dec. 22 and Dec. 23 with BD, Addison, Detroit Allen Academy and Capitol Home School of Lansing. There was no tournament in 2013.
