Redskins take over first place

MORENCI – Clinton built a 15-point third-quarter, then held on at the end as a potential game-winning three-pointer by Morenci failed to drop and the Redskins prevailed, 59-57.

The win puts Clinton in the TCC drivers’ seat with an 8-1 league record. Morenci and Madison both have two league losses.

Clinton coach Mike Ruhl said it was two evenly matched teams.
“Our kids stepped up,” Ruhl said. “It must have been a great high school basketball game to watch with all the big shots both ways.”

Morenci scored 22 fourth-quarter points in a furious comeback attempt. Austin Sandusky scored 11 fourth quarter points and Alex Thomas 10 and the Bulldogs hit five triples in the final quarter.

Clinton’s Ryan Karapas scored 24 to lead all scorers. Ryon Luzier scored 10 for Clinton while Jared Sackett added seven assists with his 13 points. Collin Poore had 10 points and six assists.

The Redskins travel to Whiteford Tuesday.
