Whiteford to add to Hall of Fame

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford High School will induct three new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015.

Emily Ritzenthaler (softball), Miranda Johnson (track) and Janie Bunge (volleyball) will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against Summerfield. The game will start about 7 p.m.

Ritzenthaler and Johnson were part of the class of 2014. Ritzenthaler was All-State in softball as a senior while Johnson was a five-time state champion and 10-time state placer in track and field during her four-year track career for the Bobcats. Bunge is a senior this year and recently scored her 1,000th point in basketball. She will join the Hall of Fame based on her being named second team All-State in volleyball in the fall.

The Whiteford Athletic Hall of Fame began in the late 1980s, honoring athletes and coaches from as far back as the first sports teams in school history in the late 1950s.

Each recipient has a plaque on the wall outside the Whiteford Gymnasium.

Also being honored Friday is Jack Luettke, longtime Bobcat football coach who was recently inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
