Madison opened its 2015 football season by practicing the minute it was allowed – at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10. The team was at Olivet College.

“It went great,” Trojan coach Taz Wallace said. “We practiced until 2 a.m. then came back the next morning for some more. We got everything out of it that we wanted to get out of it.”

Wallace said the keys for the Trojans this year is giving maximum effort and to compete.

“Right now it is about the fundamentals,” he said. “Our kids are very excited and working hard. They’ve done everything we asked them to do.”

One of the players on the team is junior quarterback Connor Mellon. Mellon became the Trojan quarterback during the 2014 season and ended up with more than 500 yards rushing and 459 yards passing.

“Practice is going great,” Mellon said. “Everyone on this team has a winning attitude and believes in what we are trying to do. Olivet was a good experience. It was hard work, but it proved how bad everyone on the team truly wants to win.”
