(NOTE: This version CORRECTS site of Whiteford vs. Summerfield boys game tonight)
Thursday nights marks the start of the 2015-16 TCC boys basketball season. The four games include Morenci at Sand Creek, Whitmore Lake at Madison, Clinton at Britton-Deerfield and
Whiteford at Summerfield Summerfield at Whiteford.
It also marks the return of the winningest coach in TCC history – John Rice from Whiteford. Rice coached 28 years in the TCC – more than anyone – and compiled a 271-109 league record. The only other coach in league history to win 200 games in league play was Charlie Risner of Sand Creek.
Rice has coached against two coaches in the TCC – Madison’s Jeff Webster and Morenci’s Jim Bauer. Rice coached three seasons against Bauer, going 5-3. He also coached once against Bauer while at Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard. Morenci won that game. The only other current TCC coach to face Rice is Madison’s Jeff Webster, who was 0-3 vs. the Bobcat head coach.
The rest of the current crop of TCC coaches have yet to coach against the Whiteford coach.
Tonight, the Bobcats will take on its biggest rival, Summerfield. Rice went 41-22 against the Bulldogs in his 30 years previously as the Bobcat coach. Bulldog coach David Raymond hasn’t coached vs. Rice, but he was a Summerfield player and played against the Bobcats for several seasons.
Here’s a look at the top 15 coaches in league history, as ranked by wins in league games only (Note, the No. 4 coach on the list, Larry Bruce, is now the Morenci girls basketball coach):
