In Clinton’s last game before Christmas, its girls basketball team survived a game against Britton Deerfield, winning 38-37. It was the first win of the season for the Redskins and it ended a five-game losing streak.
Counting that one pre-Christmas win, the Redskins have won 10 of its past 13 games, climbed into second place in the TCC and are rolling.
Tonight, the Redskins beat Morenci 57-54.
Hayley Turk scored 14 points, Makayla Thompson 12, Ashleigh Donahey 11 and Amanda Schaare 11. Schaare added nine rebounds.
“The team didn’t quit after being down heading into half down eight,” Redskin coach Nito Ramos said. “I really wasn’t sure how they would respond, but like they have of late they were able to bear down and earn the victory tonight. The team continued to make critical defensive stops and string some good offensive possessions to climb back into it and win it in the end.”
Clinton is now 10-7 for the season, 10-3 in the TCC. The Redskins host Blissfield and Whiteford next week and finish the regular season Feb. 23 by hosting Onsted.
