Madison is competing Friday at the state golf meet in East Lansing today and Saturday.
Madison has been here before – and so has its senior Nicole Olden. In fact, she’s golfing in the finals for the fourth time. The Division 4 meet is at Forest Akers West at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
“I still get nervous, but not as nervous,” Olden said. “We came up here last weekend to play the course. It’s definitely harder than last year’s course, but I think my team is ready to play it and can play well.”
Erik Thompson and Mary Lesko co-coach the Trojans, who shot 396 at regionals with Olden’s 85 leading the way. Junior Lindsey Morris also broke 100 with a 99. Sophomores Maricella Najar and Marisa Ramos with junior Sierra Hernandez round out squad in East Lansing.
Madison won the Lenawee County tournament and won its league (Independent Golf League) championship.
“We’re getting better and better,” Thompson said. “It doesn’t get old qualifying for the state.”
Madison placed 10th in last year’s meet. Olden shot 89-92 in her two rounds.
