The Whiteford Bobcat varsity football team hopes to exercise some demons tonight on the football field.
The Bobcats (8-0, 6-0 in the Tri-County Conference) will play host to Clinton High School (6-2, 4-2 in the TCC). While both teams are playoff-bound, the Bobcats have some even greater incentive:
— Whiteford is vying for it’s first-ever win against Clinton. In 13 meetings, Clinton has never lost to Whiteford. Nine of those meetings have come in the Tri-County Conference after the Redskins joined the TCC. Clinton handed Whiteford its worst-loss ever, 66-0, in 1977, on a night when it piled up more than 600 yards of offense – the highest ever total against the Bobcats.

— With a win, Whiteford will clinch its first-ever outright TCC championship. The Bobcats joined the TCC in 1975 and shared the 1994 title with Sand Creek. They have clinched no worse than a share this season (Sand Creek is 5-1 in the TCC) and will claim the outright title with a win and/or a Sand Creek loss. Whiteford’s last outright league title came in 1965 (River Raisin Conference) – more than 50 years ago.

— The Bobcats went 9-0 in both 1964 and 1965. That’s the last time Whiteford went 9-0. A win tonight will get the Bobcats to nine wins and a perfect regular season for the first time in 51 years.
— The Bobcats, coached by Jason Mensing, were ranked No. 5 in the most recent Division 8 Associated Press poll. The last time they finished the season ranked in the top five was 1992 (No. 2 in Class DD). The Bobcats went 10-3 and lost in the Division 8 state semifinals last season, setting a school record for wins in a season.
Kickoff at Whiteford Stadium is at 7 p.m.
