DETROIT – The Whiteford Bobcats lost in Friday’s division 8 State football championship game, 35-6.
Muskegon Catholic Central broke open a 7-6 game at the half with four second half touchdowns.
Bobcat Junior quarterback Thomas Eitniear threw for 96 yards and ran for 109 including an 81-yard scoring run in the second quarter for Whiteford. Whiteford missed the two-point conversion that would have given them a lead.
The Bobcat defense enjoyed a great first half, holding the 3-time defending state champions to just one TD; and stopping them inside the red zone before the end of the half.
But, MCC began the second half with a long scoring drive and closed the game by scoring with just over a minute on the clock, ending Whiteford’s season at a school-record 13-1.
Conner Hoogendoorn rushed for nearly 60 yards on the game, putting him over the 1,000-yard mark for rushing. Eitniear’s passing total gave him more than 1,000 for the year and his rushing total put him over the 900-yard mark giving the Bobcats three backs with more than 900 yards for the first time in school history.
The Bobcats broke a host of team records on the season.
