OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford High School will induct five new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017.
Kaleigh Funchion, Josh Beck, Jesse Kiefer, Herbie Bertz and Erin Manley will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against Morenci. The game will start about 7 p.m.
Funchion earned her ticket to the Hall of Fame with an All-State softball season in 2015. Beck was a two-time All-Stater in baseball in 2015 and 2016 while Manley was first team All-State softball in 2016. Kiefer and Bertz both are entering the Hall of Fame for their football careers – Kiefer was twice named first team All-State while Bertz was a second-team selection this past season.
The Whiteford Athletic Hall of Fame began in the late 1980s, honoring athletes and coaches from as far back as the first sports teams in school history in the late 1950s.
Each recipient has a plaque on the wall outside the Whiteford Gymnasium. To date, more than 150 Whiteford athletes and coaches have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
