It took more than 20 innings and couple of weeks, but Whiteford improved to 8-0 in the TCC this season with a sweep of Clinton to put themselves in the Tri-County Conference drivers seat.
The Bobcats and Redskins were tied 5-5 through 13 innings from its first meeting earlier this month and were slated to play today in Whiteford’s Mark Christensen Memorial Invitational. Before the tournament game could be played, however, the two teams had to complete its first league game.
The game went into the bottom of the 15th inning when Whiteford’s No. 9 hitter, Nate Bauman, was hit on the head with a pitch, went to second on a passed ball and scored on a Ty Eitinear single to center. Whiteford won the opening game of the tournament over Clinton, 10-2, in a game that also served as the second game of the league double header with the Redskins.
Whiteford went on to beat Riverview Gabriel Richard, 4-3, in the tournament finals to win its own invitational.
Whiteford also won the softball invitational with a 1-0 win over Richard in the first game and a 15-3 win over Erie Mason in the other.
