Bobcats clinch share of TCC softball championship

Whiteford has clinched no worse than a share of the 2017 TCC softball championship. The Bobcats are 10-1 with the completion of a game vs. Summerfield and a doubleheader with Sand Creek remaining.

Morenci, Clinton and Madison each have four league losses as of Wednesday’s games.

The Bobcat league title ends a nine-year stranglehold on the TCC the Clinton Redskins have had since joining the league.

The league title is Whiteford’s first since sharing the league title with Summerfield in 1996. The Bobcats have 11 all-time TCC softball titles, all coached by Kris Hubbard, tying Summerfield for the most softball team titles in league history. Coach Hubbard’s 11 league championships are the most for any one TCC softball coach. She has collected 24 all-time TCC titles – second most in league history.

The Bobcats have a 2-1 lead on Summerfield in the second inning when Friday’s game resumes. A Whiteford victory will mean an outright league title.

TCC standings, through Wednesday:

Whiteford 10 1 11 0.909
Clinton 8 4 12 0.667
