More milestones for a couple of TCC coaching legends.
Morenci’s Kay Johnson picked up career wins No. 883 and 884 tonight in a double header sweep over Whitmore Lake. Morenci finishes the TCC season 10-4 and 25-9 in the regular season.
Whiteford’s Kris Hubbard picked up win No. 807 Tuesday, a 10-8 win over Milan. The Bobcats wrapped up the regular season 27-6.
The win ties Hubbard with Monroe’s Vince Rossi for the all-time victory lead among Monroe County region softball coaches. According to the MHSAA’s Softball record book, Rossi picked up 807 career victories from 1981 to 2012, most of any Monroe County school. Here’s a story The Monroe News did on Rossi upon his retirement.
With her wins, Johnson now would rank No. 10 on that state win list.
Johnson and Hubbard have combined for and incredible 1,691 varsity softball wins.
Whiteford and Morenci are entered in Saturday’s Division 4 District softball tournament at Britton Deerfield. The Bobcats play the 10 a.m. game against Britton Deerfield while Morenci takes on Summerfield at noon.
