Bobcats advance to D4 softball quarterfinals

Whiteford’s softball team will compete in the Division 4 state quarterfinals for the second straight season after winning the Regional it hosted today.

The Bobcats (31-6) defeated Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes 7-1 in the semifinal and beat Allen Park Inter-City Baptist 28-0 in the finals. The Bobcats faced just nine batters in the championship game, which went only three innings.

Whiteford will play Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Grand Blanc against defending state champion Unionville-Sebewaing, the same team that eliminated the Bobcats in 2016.

The Bobcats have 12 all-time softball Regional championships and three state titles. The 31 victories are one shy of the school record. This is the third 30-win season in school history.

Clinton’s softball team made it to the Division 3 regional final, but fell to two-time defending state champion Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central.

In baseball, Whiteford defeated Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes 4-1 in the semifinal, but fell to Royal Oak Shrine, 11-0, in the championship game.
