Whiteford, Summerfield are regional champs; Clinton in softball finals

Three TCC teams competed in the regional baseball and softball tournaments Saturday. Here’s a recap:

Whiteford’s softball team swept through the Division 4 regional softball tournament at Hudson Saturday, beating Burr Oak (14-1) and North Adams-Jerome (9-3) to advance to Tuesday’s quarterfinal at Battle Creek.

Clinton knocked off three-time defending Division 3 state champion Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central to advance to the regional final, which will be played at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The Redskins (35-1) trailed 2-0 before rallying to win in the eighth inning. Libbi Fair had a key RBI hit while Renee Hoffman slammed the door on SMCC in the eighth inning to preserve the win.

Summerfield advanced to the Division 4 baseball regional final by beating Concord in the first semifinal game, 8-5, then took Hudson into the 11th inning before winning with a bases-loaded walk.

The Bulldogs are 21-12.
