Madison wins girls basketball regional title

MICHIGAN CENTER — Madison’s girls basketball team captured the school’s first ever Regional basketball championship Wednesday with a 39-36 win over Springport.

Laura Teunion-Smith scored 11 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and pulled down 14 rebounds in the game to lead the Trojans. Carly Anschuetz scored 10 points and Kaiya Wall sank two pressure-packed free throws with 13.7 seconds left in the game to give Madison a 3-point lead.

Teunion-Smith grabbed the rebound on Springport’s 3-point miss with less than five seconds left.

The 23-1 Trojans, who set a school record for wins, will play Ypsilanti Arbor Prep in Tuesday’s Division 3 quarterfinal at Tecumseh High School.
