TCC starts season – Summerfield extends streak to 29

Madison pushed Summerfield to the limit Tuesday, but the Bulldogs long TCC win streak remains in tact after a triple overtime, 63-56, victory.

It was the opening night of the season for TCC play and three league games were on the schedule. Whiteford came from behind 57-54 to beat Sand Creek and Erie Mason scored a win in its first-ever TCC game.

But the game of the night was in Adrian as the Bulldogs and Trojans battled back-and-forth for much of the game, then remained tied for six periods.

Brock Olmstead drove to the basket and was fouled with .6 seconds remaining in the second overtime and Summerfield down 50-49. He made the second free throw to send the game into the third overtime then went 8-for-10 from the free throw line and added a layup to help Summerfield pull away.

“Even though we had to wait until February to play a game, this one might have been worth the wait,” Summerfield coach David Raymond said after the Bulldogs won their 29th consecutive TCC game.

Olmstead finished with 25 points. Ethan Eyler scored all of his 14 points in the second half and overtime sessions and Roman Iott added 12 for 1-0 Summerfield.

“I was proud of our guys for hanging in there and finding a way to claw back into it and eventually get the win,” Raymond said.

Madison, which had three players foul out, got 15 points from Rovahn Roberts.

Carson Brown scored 18 points while coming off the bench to lead Mason over Morenci. The Eagles, who have won back-to-back Lenawee County Athletic Association championships, also got 12 points and seven rebounds from Dylan Worden.

Morenci, which dressed only eight players, were led by Rodney Zimmerman’s 14 points.

Cole Giesige scored 34 points for Whiteford, leading them to a win with 13 fourth-quarter points. Giesige was the only Bobcat in double figures. Tylan Waltz (18), Will Alexander (10) and Shane Skinner (10) reached double digits for Sand Creek.

“We missed too many layups and fouled them too much,” Sand Creek coach Joe Long said.
